Mark was known as a believer. Not everyone one in his village was accepting of that fact. One day he was returning to his village along an isolated footpath. He was confronted by four men standing in his way. Uniquely absent was the typical, friendly greeting of “As-salāmu ʿalaykum” (Peace be upon you). Instead, they confronted him with, “We hear that you are a Christian. We are going to throw you into this pit and kill you.”
