Every Day

I am faith-filled about how the Lord will impact our Fellowship at General Conference 2014. Wholeheartedly, I invite you to make plans to be with us from April 28 to May 1 in the vibrant city of Saskatoon as we enjoy great western hospitality and experience all that God has for us as a Pentecostal family.

“Every Day” we are given the opportunity to be in an intimate relationship with God, and to be transformed by His Word as we generously share of our lives in word and deed. The program for General Conference 2014 has been carefully developed to assist our Pentecostal family, as leaders and churches, to engage what our call to “Every Day Faith” involves, so that we will fulfil our mission to glorify God as we make disciples. Fully developed followers do not just happen. It requires intentionality regarding how we live, lead and serve. General Conference 2014 will seek to motivate and equip us for this great calling.

Our speakers have been specially chosen as examples of leaders who live out “Every Day Faith.” I invite you to be impacted by:

Rev. Wilfredo De Jesus (Pastor Choco) who is the senior pastor of New Life Covenant Ministries, the largest Assemblies of God church in the United States. Through church planting and holistic community ministry, Pastor Choco and his congregation model how to “Share Every Day.”

Pastor Ken Shigematsu has led 10th Church in Vancouver, B. C., through an amazing transformation into an “in-city” church with multi-faceted impact. All of that is based on a deep commitment to an intimate, “God In my Everything” walk with God.

Dr. Alton Garrison, as assistant superintendent of the U. S. Assemblies of God, has spearheaded the call and the equipping of the Spirit-empowered church globally to re-engage the Word of God in creative ways as we develop 24-7 Christ followers.

PAOC global workers Gary and Marilyn Skinner and other speakers will also inspire our spiritual, theological and missional vitality. Special events and luncheons will provide additional impact. There will be two morning sessions where delegates will hear presenters and then interact regarding practical applications of “Every Day Faith” to our ministry contexts.

Each morning and evening we will welcome the presence of God among us as we worship with teams led by Sonia Reid, Blaine Eagle and Evan Drisner. Our Conference will culminate with a joyful celebration in the TCU Auditorium involving feature artists, a mass choir and creative ministries.

"Impactful," "memorable," "practical," and "uplifting" are all words that will describe our time in Saskatoon. See you there!

Welcome from District Superintendent, John Drisner

Welcome to Saskatchewan!

The Saskatchewan District is honoured to be hosting the 2014 General Conference in Saskatoon. Not only is Saskatoon the largest city in the province—it is our nation’s fastest growing and youngest city. Its history dates back to 1882 when the Toronto based Temperance Colonization Society was granted 21 sections of land straddling the South Saskatchewan River for the purpose of escaping the liquor trade and setting up a “dry” community on the prairies. The next year, led by evangelist John Lake, the temperance settlers arrived in Saskatoon via horse-drawn cart. The city was born.

The Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada has been deeply influenced by the work of God in this province. The late Tom Johnstone, a former general superintendent, said that “there isn’t a man in all of Canada who contributed more to the lasting nature of the PAOC than J. Eustace Purdie. He has laid a foundation of biblical doctrines that has paid dividends.”

In 1917, after ministering in the Maritimes for six years, Dr. Purdie moved to St. James Anglican Church in Saskatoon. In August of 1919 renewal speakers Mr. and Mrs. Crouch prayed for him in the St. James Anglican Rectory and he was powerfully filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in a new and supernatural tongue. In August of 1925, R.E. McAlister, general secretary of the PAOC, informed him that he had been unanimously elected to serve as the first principal of Western Bible College in Winnipeg. Many of our early convictions were established and articulated by a man who was filled with the Holy Spirit in an Anglican church right in Saskatoon. Many other stories out of Saskatchewan of great impact can be told.

As we gather together for General Conference 2014, let us believe the Lord for wisdom and humility as we do our business, and for a fresh outpouring of the Spirit in our lives, in keeping with the early history of Saskatoon and the province of Saskatchewan. We honour our general superintendent David Wells, our executive officers David Hazzard and Murray Cornelius, and the entire leadership team that has worked alongside them to serve General Conference 2014.
