Ministry Focus: The In School Feeding Program in Honduras has been operating since 2013, feeding vulnerable children on the outskirts of Tegucigalpa Honduras. A nutritional breakfast drink is given to pre-school and kindergarten children each morning (Monday-Friday) before school starts. The porridge-like beverage provides critical nutritional support for children to help ensure they get the important vitamins and minerals that they need for healthy development. The daily serving before school in the morning helps children stay alert during class and improves learning comprehension.
In 2022, over 820 children benefit from the program in 12 different school locations, in addition to supporting other children in the community. To complement the child feeding, this project also supports community-based workshops highlighting the importance of nutrition as well as hygiene activities at a household level.
Ministry Goal: Our budget for 2022, including program administration and support, is currently $36,500 (Canadian funds).
Cost: $44.60 per child, per school year. Note: a school year in Honduras is 9 months in duration.
