LOCATION: Guyana
OUR VISION: To train, equip and empower a generation of Indigenous youths to break the poverty cycle and restore hope. More importantly, to lead them into a relationship with Jesus using a holistic approach which includes skills training, mentoring and discipling as the vehicle for overall wellness.
MINISTRY FOCUS: We are working to address unemployment, high suicide rates, and substance abuse among young people, with a particular focus on Indigenous communities. In my current role, I (Amar) serve as a mentor, auto mechanic technical trainer, and facilitator of the mental health workshop. We also partner closely with local community leaders as well as the Guyana Prison Services and the Ministry of Labor. While Nadi mentors women in the female prison and walks alongside them as a trusted friend, helping them recognize and live into their God-given potential. Our mission is to build Christ-centered relationships with families and help lead them into a life of Hope in Christ.
MINISTRY HISTORY: I (Amar) spent 30 years with Toyota Canada, serving in a range of roles from master technician to technical trainer. I (Nadi) chose to stay at home to raise our two children, while remaining actively involved in ministry at our home church, Cedarview Community Church in Newmarket, Ontario, and volunteering at a local homeless shelter. Together, we have also led seven short-term mission trips.
In 2021, the alarming rates of suicide and hopelessness within Indigenous communities deeply moved us. It was then we felt called to return to our country of birth, Guyana, and use our God-given gifts to make a difference. Since our deployment in September 2023, I (Amar) have trained 92 students in automotive mechanics, while together we provide mentoring, counseling, discipleship, and spiritual guidance. We are also grandparents of two wonderful grandboys.
PRAYER REQUESTS:
• Pray for our personal safety as we travel the dangerous roadways in the country.
