In Memoriam: The passing of Dr. Gordon McDonald

Bishop Gordon McDonald

The Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada wants to acknowledge and extend condolences on the passing on Sunday, June 21, 2020 of Dr. Gordon McDonald, General Superintendent for the Pentecostal Holiness Church of Canada (PHCC). Dr. McDonald was also Co-chair of Empowered21 Canada, serving alongside PAOC General Superintendent David Wells, and Rev. Rick Ciaramitaro.

A respected leader and gifted communicator, Rev. McDonald was a member of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church (IPHC) Global Leadership Council, the IPHC Council of Bishops, Pentecostal and Charismatic Churches of North America, and the Pentecostal World Fellowship. Rev. McDonald was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and thousands of Canadians and people around the world had been praying for him.

Rev. Wells expressed his personal sentiments in response to Dr. McDonald’s passing. “Dr. McDonald was a genuine father in the faith, and we honour his wise, statesman-like service alongside of us. I invite you to pray for his wife, Glenda, the McDonald family, the IPHC membership in Canada and his colleagues globally.”

William M. Wilson, President and Global Council Co-chair of Empowered21, also expressed his sentiments: “Gordon was a wonderful Christian gentleman and huge champion for the Empowered21 network and values. Our entire Global Council saw him as a friend and great statesman … We were very honored to have Gordon attend our Zoom Global Council meeting earlier this month despite his failing health. His testimony that day touched all of us in a profound way.”

Rev. McDonald’s heart for the people of God was expressed in one of his last published statements on the Pentecostal Holiness Church of Canada (PHCC) website:

“Let’s believe God for a revival in our lives, our relationships, our marriages, and our families. Let us look ahead with expectancy each time we come together and take our place in the prophetic word of Psalm 72. Let's give Him dominion in our lives so we can be an active part of His Dominion from sea to sea.” (See the full statement here: http://www.phcc.ca/?i=12324&mid=1000&id=286950)

Thank you once again for praying with us for the McDonald family, the IPHC body in Canada, and all who served alongside Dr. McDonald and who will miss him dearly.
