bishop-james-leggettBishop James Leggett was a pillar in the history of the Pentecostal/Charismatic Churches of North America. He brought strength, wisdom and stability to our young movement in a time of uncertainty.  Through his strong leadership he breathed a fresh wind of confidence into members, thus becoming a prophetic voice around which leaders eagerly rallied.

His kingdom influence, however, etched a mark well beyond the borders of Pentecostalism.  A lover of the greater Body of Christ, it was my privilege on many occasions to accompany him into the waters of ecumenism, a word often eschewed and feared by classical Pentecostals, but when dressed in denim the word simply and sincerely called his heart to agape love and fellowship with brothers and sisters in Christ.

James was a churchman.  He loved the Church in its every expression, regardless of its blemishes and shortcomings.  His biblical character and integrity remained in tact throughout his life, and when he opened his mouth to preach or teach, there was always evidence of the anointing of the Spirit. He was a mentor to me, and my dear friend and colleague in ministry.

On behalf of the leadership and members of the PCCNA, we extend our love and care to Faye and the family, and cover them with prayer at this time of loss.  We grieve with you, but rejoice to imagine the grand coronation and mighty celebration that welcomed James beyond the veil on the occasion of his promotion to heaven.
