LOCATION: Bangkok, Thailand
MINISTRY FOCUS: I will be embarking on a 3 month trip from Trinidad to Chiang Mai, Thailand to do a 4-week intensive TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) course for teaching certification within Thailand. I am using this opportunity as an avenue to get back on the mission field in Thailand, while using TEFL for visa and work assistance, funding, as well as connection with non-Christians in both the community and classroom settings.
When this course is completed, I will be partnering with Imagine Thailand Foundation again under the direction and guidance of their Executive Director Zachary Wylie. I plan to help serve the 99% of Non-Christians in Thailand at their many locations of ministry (Mae Sot, Takua Pa, Hat Yai and Bangkok) where they seek to work in areas of Education, Development and Discipleship with the purpose of building strong communities. There I will participate in collaborating, contributing and even creating avenues of ministry with their many partners. My hope is to develop a bi-vocational ministry utilizing TEFL where I am able to teach English and participate in outreach initiatives. I hope to establish this within the first 3 months I am there and hopefully remain as the Lord leads. I recognized from my internship that the Lord had a powerful way of using me as a catalyst for community, bridge building and intentionality among people groups and organizations, and I plan to continue in this way and see what God will continue to do through me.
YOUR IMPACT: Through your partnership, I will be launched into ministry in a cross-cultural setting, ministering to university students in Bangkok.
MINISTRY HISTORY: I grew up in a Christian home on the island of Trinidad and Tobago, where I served in various capacities in children's ministry and administration. As I grew in my love for people and understanding what intimacy with God looks like, I began to preach in my local young adults group and lead weekly Bible studies with the church congregation, under the leadership and mentorship of my pastor. My mentor pushed and encouraged me to venture into preaching on Sunday mornings and through this I realized my passion for being vulnerable when teaching God's Word and making it personal and practical for living. I never saw myself in a ministry leadership position growing up, as I had hopes of being a criminologist when I moved to Canada to study. However, after following God's powerful call on my life to become a missionary, my desires is to continue to live in obedience and faith wherever God may lead me.
PRAYER REQUEST:
- Prayer for God to continue to humble me and teach me to love His people as He loves me.
- Prayer for a teaching job opportunity.
- Prayer for people of Thailand to come to know Jesus intimately and prioritize Him.
- Prayer for open-mindedness and courage to step out of my comfort.
- Pray that I am able to plant seeds and water them in preparation for God to grow them in knowledge and love for Him.
