Red Frogs is a support program that exists to serve and safeguard young people. Today’s adolescents live in a culture dominated by alcohol, drugs, social media and other pressures that can lead to dangerous and life-altering behaviours. That's where we come in – to be a positive influence and provide an added layer of support while these young adults are finding their way.
Our program was brought to the University of Windsor in 2018, and has been active since Welcome Week Fall 2018. On campus, we have specifically served at events such as the UWSA Welcome Week tent parties, Coming Home Music Festival, and FROST Fest to name a few. We have provided our services in the form of Hydration Stations, Chill Zones, and Walk Homes. We provide water and snacks as well as friendly personnel at events like these where students may be inebriated and need help or would otherwise feel safer to have someone trustable to accompany them to-from the parties to their cars or residences.
Red Frogs works as a referral service, in conjunction with Emergency Medical Services and Police, not as a replacement of these professionals. Our harm reduction and sexual assault prevention strategies include offering a safe space for people to calm down in escalating situations, water and snacks to keep people hydrated and lessen the effects of alcohol consumption, and accompaniment if necessary to walk in safety. We understand the strain that non-emergency situations can place on Emergency Response Personnel who may be needed elsewhere, so we offer a team of volunteers who can keep a non-emergency situation from becoming one.
