Indigenous People (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit) make up over 1.8 million of Canada's population, living in every region and territory of the country. More than half our Indigenous population reside in urban areas, not just remote locations as sometimes thought. As the fastest growing segment in the population (four times faster than the rest of Canada in the past decade), their influence in Canada will continue to rise.
Through Mission Canada, the PAOC works with the First Peoples of our land to connect, train, and equip leaders through our Fellowship's efforts in upholding these common values and priorities:
VALUES
- Evangelism - sharing the gospel in ways that are relevant to the culture and focused on making disciples.
- Reconciliation - acknowledging the importance of biblical reconciliation and the need for ongoing intentional engagement to build cooperative relationships both with and within the Indigenous community.
- Network of Partnerships - helping to cultivate strong partnerships with Indigenous and non-Indigenous leaders as equal cohorts within the PAOC.
PRIORITIES
- Leadership Development - identifying and training emerging and current leaders for the Indigenous church in Canada.
Through initiatives like the James Kallappa Indigenous Leaders Fund (used to assist Indigenous participants of PAOC recognized training programs and as seed funds for new Mission Canada Indigenous initiatives as they enter ministry in their cities and communities) and the Miyo-Wāhkōhtowin Journey (a church-to-church relationship expression) we seek to achieve our stated values and priorities, helping to enable the First Peoples of this land to achieve their God-given potential within their communities and across the nation.
Come and join the journey with us!
