Ministry Location: Hamilton, ON
Ministry Focus: Cultural Ministry
After 10 years of both volunteer and full-time engagement in missions with the PAOC, this mission worker has returned to Canada to take the next step in God’s calling on their life: to reach the unreached; specifically, in Hamilton, ON.
This Mission Canada worker is excited to join PAOC’s missional expression in Canada, serving with Mission Canada’s Neighbours & Newcomers Network. This cross-cultural mission priority is focused on reaching those who need to experience the love of Jesus. It is through meeting practical needs such as English language classes and building relationships through every day, intentional interaction and hospitality that opportunities arise to share life and faith in Christ.
WORKING TOGETHER...IN HAMILTON
Mission Canada is blessed to have a cultural worker in Hamilton, a key area in Southern Ontario where the immigration population is experiencing growth. A growing multitude are from the Middle East and other nations with majority populations from the world’s other major world religion. God has brought these peoples to Canada to hear the gospel.
Our nation receives hundreds of thousands of people each year from all over the world, many of whom come from places where the gospel has very little presence. They may have never even interacted with a believer before I their lives! Now, here in Canada, we have the amazing opportunity to reach not only them, but also open a door to reaching their families and friends back in their home nations through them, with the good news of Jesus.
As this worker takes every opportunity to build relationships with those who are new to the area and develop friendships, the love of Jesus will shine through their godly character, their warm and kind ways, as well as their helpful acts of service and genuine gift of hospitality. As they reach out to those who are neighbours and newcomers to Canada in sincere and practical ways, we know that the truth of the gospel will be seen, heard, felt, patiently explained, and genuinely experienced. It is the good news of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit that captures hearts and transforms lives. Why do we do this? Because we must!
GOD’S HEART FOR THE FOREIGNER
There is a special place in God’s heart for the foreigner. For instance, “The foreigner who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the foreigner as yourself,” (Leviticus 19:34) is just one of many verses about caring for foreigners in our midst. Jesus, in the Great Commission, instructs us to make disciples “in all of Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to all the ends of the earth” (Matthew 28:19). The Samaritans were foreigners living in Israel. They were kind of an “in-between” people, living in a place where their culture differed and they didn’t fully belong, were vulnerable, and often poorly treated. Jesus highlighted them specifically as ones we are sent to love and reach!
