Third-culture kids are children who spend significant amounts of time with their families serving in a different country or cultural setting. "Third culture" refers to a mixture of cultures resulting from effectually living in two worlds: the child's home culture (ie. Canada) and the host culture where they live with their parents. This mix of cultural values, behaviours, expectations, etc. can create a sense of alienation in a TCK, making them feel as if they don't belong in either the home culture or host culture.
This fund is established to help care for our Third-Culture Kids (TCK). It provides subsidies for summer camps for our younger TCKs. It also provides the opportunity for TCKs returning to Canada for post-secondary pursuits to attend Reboot. Reboot is important as TCKs experience huge transitions in their lives with the biggest being their move to Canada.
They face all the challenges of North American teens including transitioning from high school to university or college, and all the responsibilities that come with transitioning from youth to adult. On top of this, TCKs are transitioning from their home in another country to Canada, which is quite foreign to them.
Finally, the fund helps to provide Christmas love gifts to our college and university aged TCKs who are away from their families at Christmas time.
Please consider giving to care for our TCKs.
