LOCATION: Sri Lanka
TRANSFORMATIONAL IMPACT: Our dream is to reach out to children and their families within Kandy, Sri Lanka, meeting their educational needs while simultaneously introducing them to Jesus Christ.
MINISTRY FOCUS: Sri Lanka consists of 70% Buddhist, 12% Hindu, 10% Muslim, but only 7% Christian. Our city, Kandy, is also home to a famous temple that Buddhists from all over the world flock to. In response to this gospel need, we established the Building Up Dreams (BUD) Centre, a community centre that provides local children the means to further their education.
With our team of national workers, we offer classes in art, English, math, Sinhala (the local language), computer, and sports (volleyball), besides organizing children’s and youth camps. Only a very small percentage of children who attend are Christian; thus, we constantly seek to share Jesus with the over 140 children we have registered. We regularly see 80+ of them attending our centre daily, ranging in ages from preschool to grade 12.
YOUR IMPACT: You will help over 140 children, along with their families, be shown Jesus’ love and taught Christian values, with the hope that they accept Christ and follow His will for their lives.
MINISTRY HISTORY: I (Nishanthe) was born and raised in Sri Lanka. I accepted Christ at a young age and entered into ministry right out of high school. I (Kristin) went on several short-term mission trips to Sri Lanka before solidifying my call to full-time ministry there. After getting married in 2007, we have served as global workers since 2013. In 2014, we answered God’s call to establish and build this ministry centre in Sri Lanka. We now reside here with our four children: Aneisha, Mikaela, Jayden, and Kyla.
PRAYER REQUESTS:
- For God to help to Sri Lanka as it faces severe economic crisis and draw many more people to Himself.
- For God to use the BUD Centre to be the means for the children and their families to discover who Jesus is, in order for their lives to become a testimony of God’s unending love.
- For God to protect and provide for us as we lead our team, serve our local church, and homeschool our children.
