The Walton family is currently working at VOH Malawi (VOHM), a ministry to children in extreme poverty. Jef and Renatta serve faithfully as the Director and Administrator of VOHM. They work with a local committee of community leaders to identify children who are amongst the most vulnerable in the area. They partner with the caregivers of each VOH child to support them though education, healthcare, nutrition, and discipleship. About 350 children are now supported through VOH Malawi. Additionally, more than 30 Malawians are employed full time at the centre. Most of the families they serve live in the same community as the centre is located. VOHM is a high-density and low-income peri-urban community called Kauma which is in Malawi’s capital city, Lilongwe. Each day VOH children walk from home to the centre to attend classes at the school and access the other programs. Renatta is also an adjunct faculty member at Master’s College and Seminary where she continues to teach online courses.
Jef and Renatta have been serving in Malawi, Africa since November 2014. Before moving to Africa Jef worked as a plumber, a youth pastor, and served on the board of his church. Renatta served as the administrator of their home church for five years and she has been teaching at Master's College and Seminary since 2008 both online and on campus.
