The Dignity and Sanctity of Human Life: Pastoral Framework for Crisis Care
Suicide · Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) · Abortion

Pastor David Baker
PAOC Credential Holder, Pastor, Police Chaplain and Police Mental Health Responder

Introduction

This document provides a unified pastoral framework to guide pastors and ministry leaders as they walk with individuals and families through profound life crises involving suicide, Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD), and abortion. It is intended to support general crisis care as pastors lead through seasons of acute vulnerability affecting individuals, families, and sometimes entire communities.

Although each issue presents unique ethical, emotional, and situational dimensions, the pastoral response rests upon a consistent theological and relational foundation. Crisis disrupts clarity, heightens fear, magnifies vulnerability, and often compresses time for discernment and decision-making. In such moments, people do not merely need answers; they need an anchored, faithful presence.
