Week of January 16, 2017
VENEZUELA
Venezuela is facing nearly complete collapse. Mortality rates are rising rapidly, especially for babies and the elderly, as a result of shortages of food, medicine and appropriate health care. Large numbers of people with mental health needs are going without treatment. Triple-digit inflation has left more than 70 per cent of the population in poverty, and a severe crime wave keeps people locked indoors at night. Pray for God’s intervention and guidance for Venezuela’s leadership, that He will move them to make decisions in the best interests of the people. Pray for food and medical assistance to reach those who need it most. Pray also for opportunities for the gospel to spread, so people find hope and comfort in Christ.
Harlyn & Helene Purdy
MALAWI
Please pray for Harlyn and Helene’s daughter, Meghan, who has been diagnosed with another tumour in her lower spine. Pray that God will bless the doctors with wisdom and guidance on how to best treat Meghan. Pray that He will also comfort and encourage Meghan, Harlyn and Helene during this time. Pray also that God will perform a miraculous healing upon Meghan and her health will be restored.
Joy Johnston
UGANDA
Joy is leaving this week to settle full-time in Uganda. Please pray for all of her final departure preparations and for a good transition from Canada to Uganda. Pray also for fruitfulness in the new ministry opportunities that this move will open up for her.
Hector & Ruth Aragon
GUATEMALA
The Aragons are partners with ERDO’s ChildCARE Plus (CCP) program, which sponsors children in Guatemalan communities. Hector works alongside local pastors and visits the parents of sponsored children to encourage them to receive Christ, attend church and continue to send their children to school. The Aragons frequently welcome short-term missions teams from Canada to help with building projects and medical services. Pray for guidance and strength for Hector and Ruth as they share the good news. Pray also for safety while they travel and for the salvation of the families involved in the CCP program.
