ERDO’s October Global Hunger Initiative – The Ration Meal Challenge

Greetings friends,

Every October, we look forward to gathering around the table to celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends; it’s also a time as a Fellowship when we remember families around the world who do not have enough to eat.

James 2:15-17 reminds us, “Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”

This fall, I am inviting you and your church family to join a national movement against hunger and injustice by setting aside one Sunday in October to participate in the Ration Meal Challenge. By participating, you can use the experience to speak to all ages in your congregation on issues related to hunger.

What is the Ration Meal Challenge?

Replacing a meal and eating a ration meal, similar to what is provided in refugee camps such as flat bread or red beans and rice—then donating the money saved to ERDO to help children and families living in these conditions.

It’s a meaningful way to symbolically identify with people in a different cultural context, help children learn about hunger, and make a contribution to help people who don’t have enough to eat.

When you donate the money saved to ERDO, it will be put towards food programs that are matched up to 4:1 by the Canadian government.

To help you get started, visit www.erdo.ca/ration-meal for simple meal recipes and resources for your church, including slides and video footage.

Thank you for taking action and expressing God’s love and compassion to families who do not have enough to eat.

For Him,
