Imagine being promised a better life, quality work, and good pay to help your family escape poverty. You travel thousands of kilometers, filled with hope, only to discover you’ve been sold a lie. Instead of opportunity, you find yourself trapped in a foreign land, facing unimaginable hardships. 

This is the harsh reality for three million migrant workers from Bangladesh who seek work in the Middle East. Upon arrival, their passports are often confiscated, their meager wages eaten away by unreasonable fees, and they endure regular physical assaults. 

The Plight of Migrant Workers 

The conditions these workers face are dire. Men endure physically exhausting labour, often in extreme weather conditions, with minimal rest or sustenance. Women, on the other hand, work in households where they are not only overworked but also subject to exploitation and abuse. The sense of hopelessness and despair in these situations is overwhelming. 

A Beacon of Hope 

Despite these bleak circumstances, there is a beacon of hope. God’s Word is reaching into the darkest corners of these labour camps, bringing eternal hope and transformation. Our international partners, along with courageous Bengali believers, are distributing audio Bibles within these camps. These volunteers move unnoticed amongst the labourers, sharing the message of hope and redemption. 

Why Audio Bibles?

• First, the migrant workers’ phones are carefully monitored. If a company overseer were to find a Bible app on a person’s phone, that would cause major trouble for the whole camp.
• Second, physical Bibles are harder to hide for security’s sake. In contrast, these audio Bibles will literally fit in the palm of their hands.  
• Third, these audio Bibles can be listened to by multiple people at one time.  

Murray’s Ride to Thrive 

To support this vital mission, we are launching this year’s edition of Murray’s Ride to Thrive. Our goal is to provide 2,000 audio Bibles to migrant workers across four cities in the Middle East. Partnering with Galcom International, we ensure that the distribution of these Bibles is secure and discreet. 

Murray’s Ride to Thrive involves a 100-kilometer cycling event, with rides taking place in Waterloo and Ottawa. This initiative not only raises awareness about the plight of migrant workers but also garners support for providing them with the Word of God.
