Medical Assistance in Dying in Our Nation - Urgent Consultation - Closes January 27, 2020

Dear fellow pastors and leaders in AdobeStock_178809379our nation,

We are inviting you to let your voice be heard. Medical assistance in dying (MAID) became legal in Canada in June 2016. Canadians are being invited to respond regarding medical assistance in dying (MAID) eligibility criteria and the request process via the following link (https://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/cons/ad-am/index.html). (You may wish to download the PDF version also available on this site.) This consultation is taking place in light of the desire to expand the criteria for MAID.

This is a matter of critical importance to our Fellowship and Christians throughout Canada as once again we are being asked to clearly communicate the value we put on life, as followers of Jesus, from conception to death. MAID is a topic that Garry Engler, one of our credential holders who serves in hospital chaplaincy, has addressed. We invite you to read Rev. Engler’s article (click here), and then go to the link provided by the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada, of which The Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada is a member.

Visit EFC’s page here for three things you can do to be a key part of this process: https://www.evangelicalfellowship.ca/Communications/Articles/January-2020/Urgent-action-required-Expansion-of-access-to-MAI. We also encourage you to read what the Canadian Council of Christian Charities is saying: https://www.cccc.org/news_blogs/noteworthy/2020/01/21/euthanasia-tell-the-government-what-you-think/.

We urge you to complete the online consultation. The window for response is short, and this consultation closes at 11:59 p.m. on January 27, 2020.

Thank you for your participation in this process. Our voices matter.

David Wells,
General Superintendent
