Ministry Focus: Helga, a Special Needs Educational Assistant, and David, an early retired Corporate IT Specialist, are partnering with Kim Hodgkiss in Trujillo, Honduras at Mision Verdad y Vida. This is a school for teenage girls who have come to the end of their government funded education to grade 6, and need a place to further their trade and academic skills, to give them a better life in Honduras, while being taught about Jesus, to give them hope for eternity. David is using his IT background to update and support the school’s IT environment. He is also using his construction experience to support facilities maintenance. Helga is using her sewing and cooking skills, combined with her education background, to support the school in development of trade skills and entrepreneurial endeavours.
Ministry History: Helga and David have had a passion for international missions for a long time. Over the years they have supported global workers, had global workers stay in their home, watched family members go on mission trips, and accompanied their five children as they pursued short term mission adventures. For many years, Helga and David’s mission field was sharing the love of Jesus with their children and grandchildren, serving in their local church, and living out their faith at their jobs. Recently, David has early retired, and the couple has felt their desire to pursue volunteer missions rekindled. Helga and David are hoping that their passion for Jesus, their passion for youth, and their life skills and experience will be useful to Mision Verdad y Vida.
