MISSION CANADA URBAN ASSOCIATE
Ministry Location: Mississauga, ON
Ministry Focus: Urban Ministry
The Lifestream Initiative exists to discover, disseminate and facilitate new opportunities for churches to love their neighbours. Current areas of focus include the mental health needs of First Responder and their families, mental health education for faith leaders, and assisting churches to become more engaged in their communities. With a primary emphasis on Mississauga, Ontario, Canada's sixth largest city, the initiative serves to bring Christian leaders together and make new connections between and among those engaged in a variety of ministries.
Current initiatives include working with the City of Mississauga Emergency Management Office to involve local churches in raising the level of citizen/family resilience and preparation for severe weather events and other types of disasters. This includes encouraging the creation of a course on how to keep your family safe during such events that can be taught to the community by faith leaders. It also involves urging the city to adopt a program to enlist and prepare local churches as emergency shelters.
Prayer is key part of the ministry including a monthly prayer meeting that has run since 2012. Currently we meet online once a month to focus on the needs of the people and the churches of Mississauga. Most recently this has included providing encouragement and support for the creation of the 24/7 Prayer hub for neighbouring Milton. We have also been praying with and encouraging a number of local personal evangelists who proactively share the Gospel with those they meet.
These and other initiatives are making a difference in the lives of those who live and serve in our community setting. Why? Because we must.
