Ministry Location: Vancouver Island University, Nanaimo, BC
Ministry Focus: Campus Ministry
University Christian Ministries at Vancouver Island University (UCM VIU) is an on-campus Christian community in Nanaimo, BC. It’s a place where students can encounter Jesus right where they are! UCM values whole-life worship, students leading students, and hospitable community.
UCM meets for weekly on-campus worship every Thursday night. Throughout the week, student leaders host on-campus Bible study groups, prayer meetings, and social events. The UCM team at VIU are committed to serving and reaching out students on campus through Red Frogs, a program that supports, serves and safeguards university students. The team desires to facilitate a positive peer presence on campus by providing this harm-reduction program, complete with hydration stations, at parties and events where students are vulnerable to the drug and alcohol culture. They also promote alternative events, including welcoming students to get involved in a faith-based community on campus so they can engage them in healthy and holistic living.
Your donations to UCM VIU General help to pay for on-campus outreach initiatives, ministry programming, and an annual Camp Retreat and Emerge Retreat. The UCM VIU team often gives away free gum and free pizza as they extend invitations to students to come to their worship gatherings. They also provide free snacks and water at parties to safeguard students in the party culture. Lastly, they invest in and resource student leaders by providing training retreats.
