MISSION CANADA CAMPUS WORKER
Ministry Location: Toronto Metropolitan University, Toronto, ON
Ministry Focus: Campus Ministry
Courtney Bowering is a Mission Canada campus worker at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), formerly known as Ryerson University. TMU is located in the heart of downtown Toronto and is home to over 48,000 students. Many know of Jesus, but they do not know Him as their Saviour and Lord.
LifeLine was launched in 2012 when David Burke felt God calling him to reach students in the heart of Toronto. Together with his wife, Krysten, they started “LifeLine,” a ministry born out of a desire to address the spiritual gap they saw on campus. In September 2024, as part of her degree, Courtney began an eight-month internship with LifeLine, following the call she first felt to missions in 2021. During her internship, Courtney developed a deep love for the students at TMU and the mission of LifeLine. After much prayer, she felt led to stay, recognizing the harvest is plentiful. Her dream is to see all 48,000 students fall passionately in love with Jesus.
LifeLine is a vibrant faith community on campus. It is a safe space where students can explore faith, ask tough questions, and voice doubts – confident that God isn’t upset or intimidated by their questions or concerns. We meet students right where they are, introducing them to the true, unconditional love of Jesus. For those already walking with Him, we offer discipleship with the hope of seeing them become bold witnesses for Jesus among their family, friends, and fellow students. As we dive into Scripture together, students are invited to embrace their identity and purpose in Christ.
At LifeLine we are also committed to serving students on campus, and we do this primarily through Red Frogs TMU. Red Frogs is dedicated to supporting, serving, and safeguarding students in practical ways. This includes hydration stations at TMU campus events where alcohol is served, pancake breakfasts, and other creative initiatives. We serve with no strings attached, something that often prompts students to ask, “Why are you doing this?” That simple question opens the door for genuine relationships and meaningful conversations between students and LifeLine leaders and volunteers. LifeLine is a community of students on a journey to find, follow, and serve Jesus Christ. As God transforms students' lives, the impact extends far beyond the campus, to our city, our nation, and the world.
