Full-Time Reports to: Lead Pastor Richmond Pentecostal Church comprises a congregation of roughly four hundred people. There are several families in our church with teenagers. The church is geographically situated near to several secondary schools. The City of Richmond is a growing city with many young families. Many residents within Richmond have moved here from other countries. This vacancy represents an opportunity for the church to continue to expand and develop its ministry to adolescents, teens, and families. Roles and Responsibilities • Student ministry (ages 13-18) o Lead and organize effective student ministry programs implementing: worship, biblical teaching, discipleship, outreach, evangelism, and mission. Should in-person gatherings be restricted, continue to develop innovative means to fulfill these requirements in a physically distanced context. • There is the possibility these age groups will be further distinguished in the future, ie. jr. youth and sr. youth. o Participate in the PAOC British Columbia and Yukon District’s student ministries calendar of events; including, but not limited to: • Youth conventions • Leadership conferences and seminars • Regular contact with BCYD’s Next Generation Ministries director and/or his/her designate. o Recruit, train, mentor, and lead volunteer leaders with diverse gifts and personalities. • This includes intentional discipleship and organization of programming and spiritual support for young adult and adult leaders. o Train volunteers in Plan to Protect so as to maintain the utmost accountability, transparency, and safety for teens and volunteers. o Ensure that volunteers provide and maintain current and up-to-date criminal background checks. o Provide pastoral and spiritual direction to adolescents, teens, and families on an individual basis as required. o Maintain frequent contact with adolescents, teens, and parents, keeping them informed of ongoing activities. o Keep parents updated on ministry strategies and plans in a way that encourages partnership and involvement. o Support parents in effectively fulfilling their Christian parenting roles, in concert with other pastoral staff (the family ministries pastor in particular). o Assist in the development and oversight of the Student Ministries budget; also manage student fees for events and trips in an accountable, timely, and transparent fashion. o Seek to integrate Student Ministries into all phases of church life to create a culture that is intentionally intergenerational, striving to unite with and complement other church ministries. o Participate, as needed or requested, in the evaluation and development of the overall church ministry. o Foster relationship with the surrounding secondary schools, creating serving and ministry opportunities. o Other duties as assigned or required. • Additional responsibilities o Development of media content including but not limited to: All Student Ministries A/V (additionally, video and web content) All Student Ministries social media o Young Adult Ministry interest and experience an asset. General Expectations • Attendance at weekly Staff Meetings. • A team player with strong relational skills so as to connect relationally with teens, families, and church staff. • Demonstrated ability to create, execute and impart long-term vision for the church’s Student Ministries. • To prioritize a regular coaching meeting with the Lead Pastor or his designate. • To be supportive of and loyal to the entire pastoral team and to contribute to the health of the church family. • To provide general pastoral assistance in helping the Lead Pastor with ministry to the entire church. • To handle conflict in a biblical and harmonious manner and to promote unity within the sub-congregation and congregation at large. • Keep regular hours that include time spent both in the office but also visiting families, adolescents, and schools.
Qualifications: • A personal and growing relationship with God, leading a life that is consistent both in public and private that would reflect a deep devotion to Christ in a manner that is worthy of emulation. • Evidence of a vocational calling to ministry consistent with Scriptural mandates for leaders (Ephesians 4) • Natural giftedness in youth ministry, with an ability to relate to adolescents and reach unchurched teens, and families. • An ability to teach and convey Scriptural truths for the purpose of discipling adolescents. • A self-motivated leader.
Bible College or Seminary education (ideally at minimum a bachelor degree, however, consideration will be given to candidates who are working towards a ministerial degree). Ministerial credentials with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada or at minimum the eligibility to apply for them.
Administrative abilities sufficient to manage the communications, organization, and scheduling required for Student Ministries in a sizeable church context. Media and music abilities are additional assets to be considered.
