Job Description

The Youth Assistant works closely with the Generational Ministries Pastor on matters of pastoral care and vision for the youth and young adult programming. S/he is expected to develop and lead the Jr. High program in line with the overall Westside vision and mission. The Youth Assistant will be working with students, parents, volunteers and other leaders and is expected to exemplify a healthy relationship and godly character across all levels of interaction.

Prime responsibilities

Programming 22.5 hrs. – 60%
• Is responsible for the direction, leadership and execution of all aspects of Jr. High programming including mid-week, Sunday and special events
• Prepares and delivers teaching material to Jr. High during mid-week and Sunday morning services
• Collaborates with the Generational Assistant on Friday night youth events
• Facilitates a student connection circle before and after youth night
• Creates, develops and hosts “Drop-in” program for surrounding community
• Is responsible for monitoring annual public and private school calendar and planning summer and break program accordingly
• Assists Generational Pastor in the development of 1830 programming

Leadership, Personal & Program Development – 9.5 – 25%
• Creates weekly deliberate opportunities to connect and mentor Jr. High students outside the regular programming
• Designs connection points to serve Jr. High outside Westside programming
• Provides meaningful and relevant pastoral support to Jr. High students, Jr. High leaders, parents and the ministry as a whole
• Serves on WKC Youth Leadership Team to support the growth of Jr. High ministry in line with WKC vision and mission
• Actively pursues opportunities for personal and professional development through research and spiritually healthy lifestyle for the benefit of the team and the advancement of the Jr. High programming

Administration – 5 hrs. – 15%
• Works closely with Generational Assistant to monitor and improve students program attendance using the youth database information, and create alternative connection points with individual youth whenever required
• Keeps track of students’ individual progress and collaborates with Generational Pastor to address any challenges
• Provides regular and accurate updates about the programming to the parents of Jr. High students

• These are in accordance with the fulfillment of the job functions. The assurance of confidentiality in all matters/correspondence of a personal nature is a condition of continued employment

• The Youth Assistant is expected to maintain a high level of communication with the Generational Ministries Pastor to inform each other of priorities, but also to work independently, with a minimum of supervision.
