Job Description

Oasis Daycare Director/Program Supervisor The Oasis Group of Ministries is seeking a strong Christian with a heart to minister to children to run our Christian Day Care in Grande Prairie Alberta. We are currently running near capacity which is around 30 children. The Director/Program Supervisor will be responsible to encourage and support primary staff to provide high quality early learning programs for young children at the Day Care. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following: The Daycare: Be familiar with the Daycare’s history, Vision, Mission & Philosophy Statements and ensure they are evident throughout the programs. Schedule, plan and chair regular Oasis Daycare Committee meetings. Be available to attend The Oasis Daycare Board meetings when necessary. Represent the Daycare in the community by attending professional meetings and training opportunities. Be aware of all areas of concern with children, families and the Centre. Consult with Personnel Committee as required regarding staffing issues. Establish annual budgets for staffing, toys & equipment and building maintenance and have them approved by The Oasis Board. Ensure that budgets are maintained monthly. Submit monthly invoices to agencies covering parent/daycare fees. Compile monthly parent fee sheets and write receipts for all parent fees paid. Contact parents when fees are not paid. Maintain an updated list of children who are in the program. Submit monthly subsidy and staff top-up claims. Work together with The Oasis Financial Coordinator to ensure daycare books are kept current and up-to-date. Monitor availability of child care spaces and waiting list, and admissions, to maintain the maximum enrollment of children. Create and promote advertisements for daycare spaces and staff when required. In consultation with daycare staff, work to develop and complete a Quality Enhancement Plan to maintain Accreditation status. Perform other duties as required. The Staff: Establish and maintain an environment conducive to the support and encouragement of all centre staff. Responsible for interviewing, hiring, orientations, disciplining, and dismissal of staff. Plan and arrange training workshops for staff development. Review and update job descriptions. Complete annual staff evaluations. Have a clear understanding of Alberta Licensing Standards and Best Practices in Child Care and ensure that the program is in compliance with licensing requirements at all times. Actively supervise and support all children’s programming. Support for programming includes the maintenance of toys, equipment and room supplies. Observations of children at the request of primary staff. Ensure that staff completes necessary paperwork in a timely manner. This will include program planning documents and administrative requirements including payroll and holiday request forms Conduct formal orientation for new staff members; assist in completing forms and obtaining all pertinent training if required. Ensure all forms, documents and charts are current and up to date with pertinent information related to the child care workers position. Stay updated with changes and emerging best practices in areas, but not limited to: Mental Health, Inclusive Child Care, Safety Standards, training opportunities. Working closely with Licensing and Health authorities to ensure standards are current. Notify staff of changes, implement as necessary and ensure best practices are being met at all times. Ensure staff are aware of policy changes and have current program information. Scheduling of staff, including coverage of sick days and holiday requests. Bi-weekly review and approve staff time sheets and submit them to The Oasis Financial Coordinator. Provide lunch coverage for staff when necessary. Schedule, plan and chair monthly staff meetings. The Centre: Supervise the maintenance of the indoor and outdoor play spaces, toys and equipment and storage areas. Ensure that all safety and licensing requirements are met. Purchasing is under the supervision of the Executive Director and must remain within the annual budget. Facilitate all inspections and walk through visits by Day Care Licensing, Fire and Health Inspectors and interested visitors. Initiate a monthly fire drill and ensure the completion of all safety checklist information. Families: Produce monthly parent newsletters in consultation with centre staff. Conduct parent/family interviews, receive new children into the Day Care and establish an open relationship with the parents. Promote Parent involvement, support and education. Ensure that all families are aware of the services provided by the Early Childhood Resource Center-Parent Link and the Inclusive Child Care Program.

Education Required

* Must have a Child Development Supervisor certificate (formerly Level 3) * Clean Vulnerable Sector criminal record check with RCMP * Child and Youth Intervention Record Check will be required of the successful candidate and can be done in Grande Prairie

Experience Required

* Minimum 2 years experience in child care setting * Previous director or Program coordinator experience an asset
