WHO IS YOUR JOSHUA?

WHO IS YOUR JOSHUA?

Making the Bible Come Alive - Day 6

No matter where you live in the world these days, you will have heard this phrase, “We are living in uncertain times.” Fear can surround us, but we cannot let it overtake us. God told Joshua, “As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you…Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

As adults, it is important to realize there is a generation God wants to use who are coming after us. Joshua was not only Moses’ assistant, but he was also his successor. It was Joshua who led the people of Israel into their God-given homeland. Joshua was brilliant. He was strategic. And, he was faithful to ask God for wisdom and direction when faced with challenges.

We encourage you to visit https://makingthebiblecomealive.com/en-p-joshua/ and help the next generation learn from the life of Joshua. Moses made an excellent decision when he chose Joshua to be his assistant. And, God was already at work, preparing him for extraordinary tasks. Who’s following you, and how are you training them for what’s ahead?

It was just a few Wednesday nights’ ago that I taught the Bible lessons on Moses and then Joshua the next week using the “Making The Bible Come Alive” in our mid-week program at church. In wanting to illustrate to kids the importance of leadership being passed on from one generation to another, I simply laid down on the floor in front of a room filled with kids, and told them that as ‘Moses’, my life was coming to an end. I stopped moving and laid motionless on the floor before them. The room went silent and quickly I got the attention of all 100 kids! I could tell by the whispers that they really weren’t sure what was going on with their children’s pastor. Was she dead? Faking it? Trying to be funny? All of the sudden a young five-year-old girl jumped to her feet, ran to the front, stood tall in front of me, and boldly cried out, “I am your Joshua!”

In that moment, I knew the Holy Spirit was at work. This was not a scripted object lesson. I was just following the Spirit’s promptings, not even sure myself where exactly God was wanting to take that teachable moment with the kids.

But in the weeks that followed, I witnessed that same young girl bursting through the church doors on Sundays and Wednesdays, seeking me out to let me know, “Pastor Natalie, I am your Joshua”!  She tells others, “I am her Joshua, you know”!  The responsibility I feel as a church leader has just risen to a whole new level.

We are raising up Joshua’s – those who will take the land. Those who will be our successors. Those who will experience victory ahead. Those who will see walls come crumbling down.  God, help us to pass faith on to a future generation, so they, too, can lead others into the promised land that you have for them.

Who is your “Joshua”? How are you helping prepare those who will being following you in the faith for the sake of future generations?
