Join the PAOC this month for a focus on the next generation. Our 4-14 Initiative in 2020 is timely in light of the COVID-19 global pandemic. Parents, this is an opportunity for you to connect with your kids around God’s Word using our new resources found at https://MakingTheBibleComeAlive.com
Children between the ages of 4 and 14 are incredibly receptive to the gospel. Each day in April we are going to take you to a different Bible character so kids can learn the important character qualities of individuals who lived years before Jesus ever walked the earth as well as those who walked alongside him, learned from Him and followed in His ways.
Bible reading is important as it grounds our children in God’s Word and helps them to develop a strong Biblical worldview, even from their youngest years.
Today’s focus is on Adam, the first man. Read Genesis 1 with a child today. Talk about how God created male and female, and how He made both in His own image. Have a conversation together about what it means to be created in the image of God. This theme is foundational to all of Scripture and is rooted in the very first chapter of the Bible. It’s core to the Christian faith.
As a parent or pastor, help children understand that being made in the image of God will affect how they see the world around them, and even how they see themselves as part of God’s plan. It will be reflected in the value they place on human life, and how they treat and care for others. When we are made in the image of God, we are His child. But the choice is ours whether we will live as His child and put Him first in our life. God was with Adam in the garden of Eden. God gave him rule over creation and even allowed Adam to name the animals. Just as God was with Adam then, He is with us today. Our world is not a peaceful, sinless garden like Adam once knew. In fact, it can be quite the opposite. Yes, God’s plan for all of mankind is to bring peace and to forgive sin. He wants us to live as His children, every one of us. Who are you putting first in your life today? Will you consider making God first? You can do that by acknowledging Him as God, getting to know Him better by spending time in His Word, the Bible, and following in His ways. Learn more about Adam today by going to https://MakingTheBibleComeAlive.com and clicking on the Adam icon. Watch a video, pray, make a craft with the kids or an interesting snack. Let God’s Word speak to you and to your children. Let it “come alive” in your hearts today, and every day in the month of April. Here’s some ways to help you do that…
