ChildCARE Plus in Guatemala

Moved by compassion for the poor and marginalized in Guatemala, global workers Hector and Ruth Aragon returned to the country in 1997. With only a little support, they trusted God to provide.

Partnering with The PAOC’s humanitarian charity, ERDO, they care for local children. As of 2017, 450 children there are sponsored each year through the ChildCARE Plus program. These students attend 14 area schools which are all connected to a local church or church plant.

Upon completing middle school, many go on to the William Cornelius Vocational Training Centre. With career training, the cycle of poverty can be broken.

Hector and Ruth’s work with ERDO and the Guatemalan Church also supports an annual teacher’s conference. In 2017, 215 local teachers from the 14 schools were equipped with professional development and at the same time introduced to the gospel. Many teachers have come to know Jesus through this conference, and all leave better able to teach their students.

Day 2 (22 of 39)This collaboration is motivated by a deep calling. Hector says, “It is in our hearts to see them developed into the people God wants them to be.”
