Week of SEPTEMBER 25, 2017
*The name of your weekly prayer update has been changed from “Missions Hotline” to “PAOC Prayer” to better differentiate between the weekly prayer emails generated by International Missions (found here) and the general PAOC weekly update. The PAOC Prayer update will continue to include PAOC-related, Canadian and additional prayer needs, including at least one entry for each of our workers in Canada or internationally. David Mainse, Canadian pastor, evangelist and founder of Crossroads Christian Communications Inc., passed away on Monday (September 25) at the age of 81, following a five-year battle with MDS leukemia. We praise God for his life during which he ministered to millions of people, impacting them with the gospel. Pray that his family and friends will be comforted during this difficult time of loss and mourning.
On Sunday (September 24), in Antioch, Tennessee, a gunman shot one woman to death in the Burnette Chapel Church of Christ parking lot and then entered the church and wounded several others, including himself. Please pray that God brings comfort, peace, strength and healing to the congregation members who were present at the time. Pray for the wounded to be completely healed and restored. Pray also that churches will continue to be places of refuge, authentic fellowship and worship, without fear of welcoming newcomers into Christian community.
Please continue to pray for the millions of people impacted by Hurricane Maria in Dominica, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Turks and Caicos, a British overseas territory. Many concerned families and friends living outside of the region still have no word on the status of their loved ones. Pray that God will grant peace and comfort to those who are waiting for updates, as well as healing and hope for those who were injured, lost family and friends or lost their homes. Pray that food, water, aid supplies and resources for rebuilding appropriate shelter can be quickly organized to avert a humanitarian crisis. Pray also for many opportunities for the gospel to be shared.
Hundreds were killed and thousands injured after two devastating earthquakes in Mexico. With the death toll expected to rise, pray that God will limit further loss of life and comfort all of the people impacted, especially those mourning loved ones. Pray that He would strengthen and guide the rescue workers as they continue to conduct searches, and that aid supplies will get to where they are needed most. Pray for opportunities for the gospel to be shared so that people find hope in Christ.
Pray for the health and well-being of all athletes competing this week at the Invictus Games in Toronto, Ontario. Pray that the Christian athletes and supporters will have opportunities to share their faith in word and deed, and that their lives will act as a witness to everyone around them. Pray also for our general superintendent, David Wells, to be effective in his service with the chaplaincy program there.
Pray for the salvation of the young adults with whom Linda works in Uganda and that fruit will grow in their lives. Pray that God will strengthen and encourage her as she ministers to them. Pray also that God will bless and guide Linda’s relationships with the leadership of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Africa as she works alongside them.
