Ministry Location: University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC
Ministry Focus: Campus Ministry
Every September at the University of British Columbia (UBC), 10,000 new students descend onto the campus to begin their four years of undergraduate studies. Statistically, only approximately 200 of those students know Jesus. What about the other 9,800? Will these 9,800 students from different countries, socio-economic groups, religious beliefs and family situations have at least one opportunity to hear the good news of Jesus Christ during their four years on campus?
University Christian Ministries (UCM) at UBC exists to create those opportunities – to make, mature, and mobilize Christ-followers who will do the same with their peers. Nick first came to UBC and joined UCM as an exchange student from New Zealand in 2014 and has never really left since. In 2017, he started hanging out at UBC as a campus missionary and in 2019 left his job as a high school science teacher to be fully present at UBC. In 2018, Nick married Caitlin and she has become a significant part of his ministry in the ways she supports the campus work at UBC and even shows up on campus for various events throughout the school year.
Over the past years, Nick has enjoyed discussing a range of topics such as faith, hope, dreams, doubts, friendship, romance, grace, vocation, inerrancy of the Scriptures, the work of the Holy Spirit, and Jesus Christ. Students are curious and want to engage in questions of faith in a meaningful way. Nick is here on campus to help prompt and engage those questions and to make sure every student has the opportunity to hear the good news of Jesus in their four years at UBC.
