MISSION CANADA INDIGENOUS WORKER
Ministry Location: Ontario
Ministry Focus: Indigenous Peoples
Heather is a Mission Canada worker called to reach the next generation of children in one of the neediest parts of our nation. She is being positioned in Thunder Bay, Ontario to work with its Indigenous Peoples who make up 30% of the population of that city. Many have been displaced from northern fly-in communities and are dealing with the adjustment that comes from moving into an entirely different context. Issues of employment, education, racism, family separation, suicide and addictions are all very real in this northern city.
Heather's work will be done in connection with the larger ministry team of NorthWind Family Ministries, where she will be the children's ministry team lead. Their mission is whole-life discipleship, done in a safe community atmosphere, coming alongside Indigenous Peoples and others on their journey to know and imitate Christ. This takes place through camps, in-city outreach opportunities, family strengthening programs and much more. Building relationships is where it all begins, as Heather shares God's love and teaches His Word. Heather is excited to be engaging children in a city where there is tremendous need for hope found in Christ.
