Ministry Location: Cape Verde, West Africa
Ministry Focus: While based in Praia, on the island of Santiago, Courtney will be partnering with other missionaries to establish Community Health Evangelism (CHE) in Cape Verde. CHE is a strategy that integrates community health and development with evangelism and discipleship. Through CHE, communities are equipped to identify issues and mobilize resources to achieve positive, sustainable change.
To do this, Courtney will be building relationships with local churches and ministries, doing community visits, and helping to prepare and participate in a conference being held for the national pastors that will introduce them to the CHE strategy. Using her nursing education, she will also be providing care for illnesses while bringing health education to communities.
Ministry History: Courtney’s heart for missions began when she was very young. After her first short term missions trip to Guatemala when she was 14, she knew it was what she was called to do. The fall after high school graduation, she completed a one year missions program at Vanguard College where she was able to spend 7 weeks in Southeast Asia teaching English, running children’s programs, and doing youth ministry. After going back to Canada, she studied to become a nurse and decided to return to the missions field right after she completed her education. In 2016 she moved to Northern Thailand, to serve in a children’s home called Abundant Love for eight months. While in Thailand she completed her first training in CHE which brought her to the CHE internship held in Ghana, February 2018. Now in Cape Verde, her desire is to be used by Christ to see communities changed by His grace in all aspects of life- spiritually, physically and emotionally.
