Ministry Location: Bangkok, Thailand.
This is Abbey, she's currently based on Vancouver Island as a Support worker in supportive housing for the homeless population. Abbey is preparing to head back to Thailand to continue her ministry with Nightlight International as a Case Manager for victims of human trafficking. She works right in the red light district in Bangkok. Her main focus is foreign women who have been trafficked to Thailand, she works with the necessary people to get their women through the legal process as a victim of trafficking then repatriating them back to their home country. Part of her job is to also do outreach in the red light district, and build relationships with foreign and local women working on the streets, in bars, in hotels and brothels. She has a heart for justice and to see justice brought for these women, Abbey believes in the advocacy she does for these women, and she believes in the empowerment her team speaks in these women's lives for new life and fresh starts.
Abbey started as an intern for Imagine Thailand, working in one of the local churches Imagine is connected to, she did children and youth ministry. Outreach in communities with children doing VBS and helping out with youth group, older teenagers and young adults in youth group, Sunday services, and outings/ programs after church for youth. Abbey sought out Nightlight International as she wanted to move on to what she was most passionate about - anti-human trafficking work - she reached out to Nightlight through volunteer opportunities she saw, and very quickly became involved with them. After 9 months with Imagine Thailand, she came back to Canada to fundraise for her next trip with Nightlight International, and stayed with them for 1 year.
