Ministry Focus: After serving in Brazil for 13 years, in 1985 the Mercers were transferred by PAOC International Missions to Mozambique, to begin a Bible College in the capital city of Maputo. Bill also began an Extension School Program, which took Bible training to all of the 10 Provinces. Linda became involved in health care, including the founding of a medical association, creation of AIDS prevention programs in churches and schools, and preparation of a food supplement for the undernourished. Linda also began a Christian Education Department. All of these ministries continue to the present time, with trained Nationals now giving leadership. Although officially retired, the Mercers still return to Mozambique every six months to assist with some of the needs there.
Ministry History: The Mercers began their ministry in Keremeos, BC, in January of 1960. After five and a half years there, they moved to Parksville, BC, to pastor the PAOC church there for five and a half years. In May of 1972, they went to Brazil, as PAOC Global Workers, where they were involved in teaching, administration and building in the Bible College, in the city of Recife. Bill also served as Supervisor of churches. In 1985 the Missions Department transferred the Mercers to Mozambique, Africa, to begin a Bible College in the Portuguese language. Linda became involved in medical ministry and also began a Christian Education Department, for ministry to children and youth. Bill began the Extension Bible Training program, with Centres in all ten provinces. The Mercers continue to serve in Mozambique.
