Ministry Location: University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC
Ministry Focus: Campus Ministry
Tanya is a part-time campus worker at the University of British Columbia (UBC). She attended UBC for her undergraduate degree and was profoundly impacted by University Christian Ministries (UCM) during her time on campus at UBC. Through this time attending campus ministries, Tanya encountered strong female role models who took time to mentor and disciple her throughout her time as a student. They modelled spiritual discipleship and planted a seed of what it was like to help others grow in their faith. She also found a strong Christian community that challenged her to grow in her faith and truly modelled what doing life together meant. UCM is a community that models hospitality towards others, and is a safe place for all to ask questions and learn about Jesus together.
Although Tanya was not initially planning to go into part-time campus ministry after completing her undergraduate studies, God had a different plan for her. She felt called to continue her journey at UBC as a ministry worker and she said yes. It was through her experiences during undergrad that God planted a passion in her heart: for her peers to know Christ. Tanya was and remains especially passionate for first and second years as well as those who had grown up in the church to know Christ more and more. She hopes to see spiritual discipleship happen on campus so that disciples will go and make more disciples. UCM is a place for all to come and gather, learn about who Jesus is, and for lives to be transformed by the generous hospitality and love that Christ offers each student at UBC. Through working with UCM, Tanya has seen the ways in which God has reached out to students and shown them His tender love and kindness. She is excited to continue to see the ways in which God moves at UBC.
