With approximately 75% of Canadians living in a major urban centre, Mission Canada is committed to recruiting workers that understand the unique challenges and culture of the urban core.
Urban can be defined as places of high density, high diversity and high disparity. There is often also a conspicuous absence of churches in the city core.
OUR FOCUS IS ON WORKERS that often fit into one of five categories characterized by the acronym QUEST:
Q - Qualitive Neighbours are people that are making disciples in the context of home-based ministry. By living intentionally at home, they become community builders with a ministry of hospitality and compassionate care. Their front porch becomes their sanctuary and interface to the world.
U - Urban Churches have distinctive characteristics from suburban, town and rural churches. Our workers come alongside urban churches to strengthen and network in reaching their city.
E - Energizers are influencers in the arts, politics and the public sphere bringing the influence of the Holy Spirit into distinct affinity groups.
S - Street Ministry Workers are mobile wanderers that seek to pastor the street-affiliated population. They are networkers of holistic care making disciples in their presence among the displaced.
T - Transformers are community builders that focus on relief and development in the urban core. Through street missions, soup kitchens, after school programs and more, they are involved in the long game of community transformation.
Who will go to the urban core of Canada's cities? Who will lead? Who will innovate? Who will pray? Who will plant? Who will partner? Who will embed themselves for the sake of those who need to see Jesus lived out? Will you?
