One Year in Thailand Already?!

by Hana Zohiry May 2, 2016, 07:00 AM

March has marked the first anniversary of our arrival.

This year has held the best and the very worst of our experiences. We’ve witnessed God’s grace and comfort amidst great troubles. Through it all, our hearts were moved and strengthened by the knowledge that we are not alone. Thank you. Every step of the way you have been part of our lives in prayer and giving.

We encourage you to keep up the good work knowing that our Father who sees in the secret place is truthful and just and promises to reward the faithful.

Thank you, donors, and ERDO!

The drought persists but God has provided exceedingly over all our hopes and expectations. We now have a well with clean clear water in abundance and we are able to share with our neighbours.

The best of life often comes with the worst. We thought that if only we could have water, all our problems would be solved. Well, life just isn’t made that way. Just 3 weeks after the inauguration of our well, one of our 10-year-old girls died suddenly of natural causes. Nothing so devastating had ever happened at Abundant Love Children’s Home since its foundation. The weeks that followed were difficult for everyone especially the family and the staff.

These girls are fantastic!

Rachel Paddock, from Newfoundland, and Brittany Tetford, from Ontario, came to help with English training. They, almost single handedly, held a 3 day English camp for 30 children, in April. CONGRATULATIONS!

Thanks girls for coming. Thanks churches for sending them.

They were a blessing from God. Prior to their arrival, we had no adequate tools to teach English vocabulary. Now, I am free to create tools (games), the girls test them with the children and together we tweaked them to our needs. Originally, the games were conceived with younger children in mind but Yves and the girls have been using them with the High School boys and report excellent results, even at that level. Just in time to finish the project, a church from Quebec sent a surprise donation that covered the cost of printing and laminating the games.

THANK YOU FAITHFUL DONORS!

In God’s eyes, we are all one team and when He needs something done, He calls on other team members. Thank you for your obedience to His calling.

Pastor Tongin baptized 24 new Christians the last Sunday before school break.
Most of them were teenagers from Abundant Love Children’s Home. We had to go up the mountain to find "enough" water for the event. As you can see, the water is only knee deep.

Pray that these youth follow God's direction for their lives.

Vaden and Joyce Williams attended the baptism with a team from Newfoundland Canada. Their testimonies were a great blessing to many and a God sent to a few. Thank you for coming and sharing your blessings with us.

In March, PAOC missionaries in Thailand attended the Annual General Conference and ordination ceremony of the Full Gospel Assemblies of Thailand, in Bangkok. Five pastors were ordained and five Bible School students were awarded their diploma.

Last session, I was assigned to sick bay duty. Every night children with scratches, scrapes and any other minor ailment would come to me for treatment. I noticed that, especially in the younger children, most of the infections occurred on the hands ankles and feet. Minor injuries are inevitable in children yet painful to disinfect. Every night it broke my heart to see these little kids cry over minor cuts and bruises gone wrong . They are far from their moms and some of them are only 6 years old. Every maternal instinct in me laments for a solution.

I have a dream…

A wading pool with fountains! A sand filter with chlorinated water!

Nothing fancy, just a concrete square with sprinklers. Children refreshing themselves after a long day at school all the while disinfecting every flaw in their skin in a fun and painless manner. As we clean their wounds, we could rejoice their hearts, instead of making them, cry.

I say we because without your help, the pool is just a wish, a dream. Construction workers estimate the cost of building this sprinkler pool at 8,000$ Canadian dollars. This includes digging, concrete and reinforcement wiring, finishing tiles, piping, pump, sand filter and all that is electrical. As it is only a wading pool so a fence would not be necessary.

If you would like to participate in making this dream come true, please indicate “Abundant Love Children’s Home" THA7006 (Wading pool project) on your donation.
