Urgent Prayer Request for Liberia/Dan and Donna Davies

From the desk of Murray Cornelius:

This has been a difficult month for Liberia, our partners and friends there, and for our global workers Dan and Donna Davies. Several significant events have unfolded which cause great concern. Please pray that God would intervene in the following crucial areas:

  1. Ebola is sweeping across West Africa and over 700 have died in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone. The president of Liberia has declared a state of emergency, closing all schools and group meetings. Our hearts are troubled for the people of this land who have suffered much in recent years. Pray that the outbreak would end and that healing would come to those who have been infected. Pray also for peace and comfort for the families and friends that have been impacted by the loss of their loved ones.

  2. Dan and Donna Davies, PAOC global workers to Liberia, returned home to Canada on a scheduled break, as the outbreak of Ebola was escalating. Being away from the leaders, students and children that they work alongside is heartbreaking for them. They are scheduled to return to Liberia in mid-September. We are committed to seeing the Davies return to Liberia but are also concerned for their welfare. Together with them we will monitor the situation and ensure that they return once things have settled down. At this stage the ministries that they touch, in particular the Bible college, have been shut down temporarily by the government, as have all schools. Please pray for Dan and Donna as they travel to churches in Canada and share the needs of Liberia and her people. Pray also that the pain in their hearts will be covered with God’s comfort and peace.

  3. In late July, four Liberian youth were tragically killed in a road accident as they were returning to their homes from a youth convention. Pray for their families and for the church family as they grieve the loss of their precious young ones.

  4. Also in July, Liberian pastor Johnson Kollie died as a result of typhoid and malaria. He leaves a church plant of 30 members, all new conversions within the last year. Pray for Johnson’s family and that God would raise up a godly leader to shepherd this young flock.

Thank you for partnering with us in prayer for Liberia, and all of West Africa, during this critical time. We believe that God is in control and we trust Him completely.
