Chaplaincy

What is Chaplaincy?

Vision

To increase awareness and encourage response within the PAOC to the ministry opportunities of chaplaincy as it seeks to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a unique wayin institutional and marketplace settings.

The term 'chaplaincy' is not always immediately understood, largely due to the multifaceted nature of the ministry. For example, some chaplains are privileged with the opportunity to work independently as a representative of the PAOC, while others have the privilege of functioning as part of a therapeutic team within a given institution, with the mandate to operate interdenominationally.

In Christian schools, retirement homes, hospitals, community programs or correctional centres - chaplains are truly on the front lines of ministry.  They seek to present the love of God by living it out incarnationally in real, practical, meaningful ways, and have unique opportunities to meet people in the midst of their deepest and most pressing needs.

Values
  • Incarnational ministry
  • Diversity of role and duty to institutional and/or marketplace constituencies.
  • The dignity of all persons and the religious freedom of all individuals in society.
  • The need for spiritual, practical and emotional support for people, especially in times of distress and/or confinement

Priorities

    • Enhance and increase the collection and distribution of chaplaincy information, in a continuing effort to explore new connections and opportunities.
    • Encourage PAOC leadership (both national and district) to periodically visit chaplains on-site.
    • Explore the appointment of missionaries to Canada through chaplaincy.
